This is my third year visiting Rowe Sanctuary and every time it just gets better and better! My advice for anyone visit ... plan your trip early. The viewing blind tickets go quickly - they go on sale in early January. There are places around the Sanctuary where you can view the cranes but time in the blind is important. Dress warmly ... you never know what the weather will be. The most important aspect is to read about the trip in advance and plan. Protecting these wonderful birds as they rest and recuperate at the sanctuary is the most important thing and Rowe staff/volunteers are the best. I have had great luck going around mid to late March - a great way to spend your spring vacation and educate youth about the importance of our environment and conservation.
Peaceful & wonderful opportunity to experience nature next to the Platte River.
Outstanding work helping Sandhill Cranes, but SO much more. If you love birds, this is a religious experience!
This is a birders must. If you've never witnessed the Sand Hill Crane migration you have got to see this. There were over 400,000 in attendance while we were there. The ketteling was a mile across and 30,000ft high with 10,000 birds in one huge updraft. Just down the road was a flock of 50,000 snow geese. Around the corner was a small pond with 7 different species of ducks. Can't recommend this place enough. The evening fly in was spectacular. The blind was absolutely worth it.
You will find some amazing wildlife viewing here. Plenty of educational information as well.
